PUBLIC MEETINGS SET FOR FLORENCE, HARTSVILLE, LAKE CITY AND MARION![]() posted on Monday, August 01, 2011 The Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority has scheduled public hearings for proposed new service. PDRTA is planning new or expanded service in Florence, Hartsville, Lake City, and Marion. In Florence, PDRTA will hold public hearings at noon and 6pm on Tuesday, August 2 in the Founders Room at the Drs. Bruce and Lee Foundation Library, 509 S. Dargan St. and on Wednesday, August 3 in Marion at the Marion Main Library, 101 East Court St, at 6pm. The purpose of the Florence and Marion public hearings is to inform the communities about bus Route 7. The new route, which will begin in late August, will run from Marion to Francis Marion University to downtown Florence. The Marion to Florence connection will run during the morning and late afternoon hours, stopping at FMU and other points. During the day, Route 7 will operate between downtown and FMU. "We hope to attract FMU students who need transportation between the FMU main campus and the new Performing Arts Center," Janice Baroody, PDRTA Executive Director, said. "By having the route include early morning and late afternoon runs to and from Marion, we hope to attract workers living in Marion who work in Florence as well as FMU students living in Marion who need bus service to the main campus." The bus route will be part of the Florence Transit System and connect to other routes. PDRTA will hold a public hearing in Hartsville at 7pm on Thursday, August 4 in the Hartsville Memorial Library at 147 W College Avenue. PDRTA has been working closely with city officials and residents for the last 18 months to develop the route. The purpose of the meeting is to unveil the route to the public and answer questions about the bus service. On Thursday, August 11, PDRTA will hold a public hearing in Lake City at 7pm at the National Guard Armory, 135 Calhoun St. PDRTA is seeking public input on proposed fixed route bus service in Lake City.
