According to Executive Director Janice Baroody, "We're very pleased with all the new and exciting things happening at PDRTA and especially that more people are making the decision to save energy and go green by riding public transportation."

According to the American Public Transportation Association, commuting by public transportation is one of the most significant actions you can take to reduce household carbon emissions. For every passenger mile traveled, public transportation uses about one half of the fuel consumed by automobiles and about a third of that used by sport utility vehicles and light trucks. By riding PDRTA you can contribute to better air quality in the Pee Dee Region and help reduce the nation's dependence on foreign oil.

To show its appreciation, PDRTA will be offering free rides to children up to age 17, and students with valid school identification cards throughout National Transportation Week. In addition, everyone who rides during the week will be eligible to enter the drawing to win a (bicycle or something else donated by a local merchant).
