This holiday season the residents of Lake City will receive a gift that everyone can enjoy! On Monday, December 19th Pee Dee Regional Transit Authority (PDRTA) will begin operation of the new LakeTran bus service. As an added bonus, your holiday shopping will be much easier this year when you hop on the new LakeTran bus and ride FREE until Friday, December 30th. The LakeTran service was designed specifically to give Lake City residents a great new travel option and is the result of public input as well as a coordinated effort between Lake City officials and the PDRTA. The success and continuance of the new bus service will be determined on how well it is used and on available funding. According to PDRTA Executive Director, Charles MacNeil, "PDRTA is so pleased to be able to provide this new service. We hope Lake City residents will help us spread the word and encourage their neighbors and friends to ride the bus." LakeTran will operate hourly between the hours of 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with a one-way cash fare of $1.00. Senior citizens age 65 and older, persons with disability and Medicare card holders ride for half-price, or $.50. Children between the ages of 2 and 10 also ride for $.50 and children under 2 years ride free. If you would like to ride you can catch the bus from one of the designated stops or just stand at a safe location along the route, wave at the driver and the bus will stop to pick you up.
