Beginning Monday, October 3, 2011 the City of Hartsville will have a shiny new bus service and PDRTA is providing FREE rides to everyone during the first week of operation, October 3-7.

The HART service, provided by Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority (PDRTA), was designed specifically to give Hartsville residents a great new travel option for getting to work, school, medical appointments, shopping or recreation.  "We are so pleased to be able to provide this new service for Hartsville.  We think once people try the service they will really enjoy the comfort and convenience of riding the bus." said Executive Director Janice Baroody. The new bus service is a result of input from Hartsville residents during public meetings and is a coordinated effort between the City of Hartsville and PDRTA.

HART will operate hourly between the hours of 7:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with a one-way cash fare of $1.00.  Senior citizens age 65 and older, persons with disability and Medicare card holders ride for half-price, or $.50.  Children between the ages of 2 and 10 also ride for $.50 and children under 2 years ride free.  If you would like to ride you can catch the bus from one of the designated stops or just stand at a safe location along the route, wave at the driver and the bus will stop to pick you up. Route maps and schedules are available on line by clicking here.

Another great feature of the new service is that HART customers can also transfer to a new commuter route serving Hartsville, Darlington, Florence and Florence Darlington Tech.  The commuter service operates Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 a.m. - 6:25 p.m. with eight connecting times to both the HART and Darlington transit system buses.  Florence Darlington Tech students can transfer to the commuter bus to reach FDTC where the Florence Transit Route 2 bus will provide connections to other Florence routes.

For more information about the new bus services please call PDRTA at 843-665-2227 or visit their web site at www.pdrta.org.
